Documentaries Online: Available Now at the Lindenhurst Memorial Library website!
September 18, 2020
Hello, everybody! I’m Peter, the audio/video materials librarian at the library, here again to blog about the vast amount of documentary video titles available now on our website with your library card! I have always enjoyed documentaries and probably spend more time watching them than fictional movies, just as I generally read more non-fiction than fiction. A well-made documentary presents historical, biographical, and cultural information in a unique way, fully immersing the viewer in the subject material unlike any other form of media.
Two of the library’s digital video services are available by clicking on the “digital” link located right under the logo on our website; they are Hoopla and Kanopy. Hoopla provides close to 3000 documentary titles, while Kanopy features close to 6000 documentaries, and a great deal of other video material. Every possible type of documentary is featured: music, United States and world history, popular culture, religion, politics, biography, as well as all titles produced for television by PBS and National Geographic.
Signing in to each site is easy and involves typing in the bar code number on the back of your library card. To sign up for an account, you will need to enter the email and password connected to your library card, select your home library of Lindenhurst from a drop-down list, and enter your bar code. Click here for your library account. If your card has expired, you may click here for a temporary card for use while the library is closed. For any other issues that arise, please email the Library at email@example.com for help.
Each site allows comprehensive browsing of their extensive collection of documentaries, by title, subject, and more. Kanopy even offers a short preview of each film.
There are no waitlists or late fees, and you may start streaming immediately or download to a computer, smartphone or tablet for viewing later on. Up to 10 titles may be borrowed each month, and will be automatically returned when the loan period ends after 7 days.
So try Hoopla and Kanopy for all of your documentary viewing needs. Spend some time browsing the awesome selection and enjoy!
