A to Z World Food Database
September 18, 2020

This database in an excellent way to learn about food culture from all around the world. For a full tutorial, click here! Or watch the video below. I am using this resource to highlight one of my favorite kinds of food, Ethiopian!
A to Z offers article on the food and drink culture of the country. For example, Ethiopia has dining etiquette that is steeped in tradition, community and respect. Meals will typically begin and end with a cup of coffee, and besides the occasional spoon, silverware is not used.
Beverage information is also provided. For Ethiopia, the database introduces Tej, which is a honey wine that has a 3,000 year history. This wine is normally made at home, and is a special occasion staple.

This database also provides recipes for staple foods which is, in my opinion, the best part of this database. The recipes are clear and as simple as possible. They can be emailed directly from the database and include ingredients, prep and cook times and are labeled as vegan, vegetarian, kosher, halal, gluten free, etc. Click here for the recipe for Injera, the spongy sourdough flatbread that is the literal base for Ethiopian cuisine.
