Remembering Chadwick Boseman, 1976-2020
September 23, 2020
Hello, this is Peter, the Adult Services/Media librarian. I remember being so impressed with the young actor Chadwick Boseman when he played Jackie Robinson in the biographical film 42 a few years ago. I was taken with not only his acting but the athletic ability he displayed in the role. After several other biographical films, including Marshall, about the late United States Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, and Get On Up, about the late James Brown, in which his terrific dance and vocal skills steal the show, he finally achieved breakout star status with Black Panther several years back, one of the most popular of the Marvel Comics series of superhero films. He was also hilarious guest hosting an episode of Saturday Night Live to promote that movie. So it came as a tragic shock to learn of his passing from cancer late last month at age 43. There are still several titles to be released in which his work was completed, but it is especially sad that his career was so short, given his tremendous talent. Anyone would be enriched by getting to know these films. The library owns most of them on DVD available for circulation, or to reserve if checked out. The rest may be requested through interlibrary loan from other libraries. Also, be on the alert for those titles yet to be released over the next year or so.
The library offers some of his work available for immediate download from our Hoopla digital service provider. They are always available and will be automatically returned at the end of the loan period. The following link will being you directly to the Hoopla page featuring books on the life and career of Chadwick Boseman, an early film of his, and even an audiobook narrated by him: https://www.hoopladigital.com/search?page=1&q=chadwick+boseman&scope=everything&type=direct
