Book Review: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Review: Daisy Jones and the Six was the book that everyone wanted to read in 2019. A fantastic oral history, revealing an entangled and fascinating story from the past full of love, doubt, strength and drama. It just so happens that this alluring description can also be applied to Reid’s 2017 novel The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

Framed with an interview between the glamorous and formidable Hollywood star, Evelyn Hugo and a young reporter Monique Grant, the reader is whisked away into the world of old Hollywood and the magic and misery that accompanies it. The characters are formed with different models such as Ava Gardner, Elizabeth Taylor, Rita Hayworth, and more. However, the strength and depth of Reid’s characters outshine the stars and world that they come from. This book has romance, mystery, diversity and shows the power of a person claiming their own life and their own story.
