Review: This film is savoringly simple, pensive and alluring. This is a deceptive and manipulative way to introduce the power of the mind and the need for freedom and realization that burns in people. Following a young woman who is sold into marriage, the film focuses on the thirst and need for more, and the cost of oppression on the mind and one’s relationship to humanity itself. Set in rural England in the 19th century the simplicity and sheer boredom on her life brings a sense of patience in the film that is brutally invaded by the end in an accomplished and shocking manner that sticks with the viewer long after watching.
