Book Review: All My Mother’s Lovers

Review: Ilana Masad has created a beautiful story that uses grief to access the reader and bind them into a beautiful, upward, emotional spiral. After her mother suddenly dies, 27 year old Maggie returns home to find her family broken. When she finds several letters that her mother had written to men unknown to her, Maggie takes it upon herself to deliver her mother’s final words. Masad pulls several narrative elements, changing perspectives between the mother and daughter and allowing their relationship to thread tension and love through the story while switching the setting and constantly introducing new pieces to the puzzle. This book provides a sense of family, grounding and representation that sets it apart and creates something truly special.
