English as a Second Language
February 3, 2022

We are a country of immigrants. Whether your ancestors have been here for generations, or you have only been to the United States of America for a short time the library has classes and reading material for you! Our library offers a selection of fiction and nonfiction books in other languages including Polish and Spanish.
But did you know that your your library can connect you with resources for improved adult literacy and English language learning? We have an Adult Learning collection that features books, and DVDs to help with your reading, language, and writing skills.
English Classes & Tutoring
We also offer an English Conversation Class that meets once a month. We call this class “Crossroads Cafe”, this informal class allows you to enjoy the company of other English language learners and practice your conversation skills. You can find the date of the class in our newsletter or you can view it here.
The Lindenhurst School District also offers English night classes. For more information click here.

Another option to ask for a one-on-one tutor from Literacy Suffolk. Literacy Suffolk provides tutoring to adults who:
- are at least 16 years of age and out of school.
- want to improve their reading and writing skills
- need to improve their basic English conversation skills and understanding of American culture.
All student applicants are interviewed and evaluated. Referrals to other programs are made as needed.
Tutoring is FREE.
- You will be tutored at a nearby library for 2 to 3 hours a week.
How to apply:
